25 Years of Building
International Careers
Fachhochschule des Mittelstands (FHM) has been shaping business and technology leaders since 1999 — with a relentless focus on practice, personality and global impact.
Practice Before Theory
FHM was founded on a radical premise — that what matters most is not what you know, but what you can do. Every degree integrates company internships, industry visits, live projects and practitioner-led seminars. Students graduate with a portfolio, not just a certificate.
State Accreditation & Recognition
FHM holds full state recognition from the German Ministry of Education, is FIBAA-accredited and fully compliant with the Bologna Process. Your FHM degree is recognised in every EU country, Australia, Canada and beyond — it carries the full weight of a German university qualification.
Small Groups, Big Results
FHM deliberately limits seminar sizes to 20–25 students. This isn't just a policy — it's a philosophy. When your professor knows your name, your background and your ambitions, the quality of feedback, mentorship and networking changes completely. No anonymous lectures here.
Built for International Students
The Campus.International programme is specifically designed around the needs of students coming from abroad. The dedicated WelcomeCenter handles visa letters, registration, accommodation and city orientation. You won't navigate Germany alone — FHM walks with you from application to graduation.
German Mittelstand Network
FHM's name — Fachhochschule des Mittelstands — reflects its unique relationship with Germany's 3.5 million SMEs. These hidden champions drive 60% of Germany's economy and 80% of its apprenticeships. FHM graduates don't just study about the Mittelstand — they get jobs in it.
Multiple Intakes — Start Anytime
Unlike most European universities that only admit once a year, FHM offers up to 3 intake windows per year — February, June and October. You don't have to wait 12 months for your life to begin. When you're ready, FHM is ready.
The Smartest Country
Choice You'll Make
Germany is Europe's largest economy with the best value higher education for international students — and post-study work rights that no other country matches.
After graduation, you get 18 months to find a job in Germany — the longest post-study work right in Europe.
International students can legally work 20 hours per week while studying, plus full-time during semester breaks.
A German degree qualifies you for the EU Blue Card — a fast-track to permanent residency and European citizenship pathway.
Once you're enrolled, your spouse and dependent family members can apply for a family reunion visa to join you in Germany.
Your Monthly Budget
as a Student

Hear directly from international students who chose FHM and built their careers in Germany — in their own words and on video.
"I was worried about studying in a foreign country, but FHM's WelcomeCenter handled everything — registration, accommodation and bank account in the first week. Small class sizes meant my professors actually knew my name. I got a job offer in Berlin before I even graduated."
"Choosing Germany over the UK was the best financial decision of my life. I paid a third of what my friends spent in London, worked part-time to cover living costs, and now hold an EU Blue Card. My MBA gave me exactly the Automotive network I was looking for."
"The International Management programme was entirely in English — no German required. The 12-week internship placed me at a Frankfurt consulting firm. Within 8 months of graduation I had permanent residence and a salary I could only dream of back home."
"The Finance & Fintech programme opened doors I didn't expect. FHM's connections with Berlin's startup ecosystem meant I was networking with fintech founders while still a student. I launched my own payment startup six months after graduation."
"As a Nigerian student, I was nervous about the visa process. FHM's admissions team guided me step by step. They issued my offer letter within 5 days and I got my visa in 8 weeks. The WelcomeCenter team even picked me up from the airport on my first day."
"I chose Düren for the AI & Data Science programme because the cost of living is much lower than Berlin. I worked 20 hours a week at a local tech company which paid my rent entirely. The professors had industry backgrounds — no theory-only lecturers."

Everything You Want
to Know
No. All Bachelor and Master programmes at FHM International are taught entirely in English. You do not need any German language skills to apply or study. However, we recommend learning basic German as it helps with daily life and significantly improves your job prospects in Germany after graduation. FHM offers free German language modules as part of most programmes.
The German student visa typically takes 6–12 weeks from application to approval. Once you receive your offer letter from FHM, you apply at your local German Embassy or Consulate. FHM's WelcomeCenter provides full visa guidance and issues the official enrollment letter required for your application. Apply at least 3 months before your intended start date.
Yes. International students in Germany can legally work up to 20 hours per week during the semester, and full-time (unlimited hours) during official semester breaks. Germany's minimum wage is €12.82/hour (2024), so 20 hours/week generates approximately €1,000/month — which comfortably covers most students' monthly living costs.
Requirements vary by programme. For Bachelor programmes, a minimum of 70% overall in your 10th and 12th grade is generally required (55% for International Business Administration at the Berlin campus). For Master programmes, a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 55–60% is required. Our admissions team can review your transcripts and advise if you meet the criteria before you apply.
IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent TOEFL 72+) is the standard requirement. However, if you completed your previous degree entirely in English, you may be exempt from providing a separate language certificate. If you haven't taken IELTS yet, you can still submit a conditional application — FHM can issue a conditional offer letter while you prepare for the test, which is sufficient for visa processing in most countries.
Absolutely. After graduation, you receive an 18-month Job Seeker Visa which allows you to remain in Germany and find employment. Once employed in a role matching your qualification at the required salary threshold, you can apply for the EU Blue Card — a permanent work and residence permit with a fast-track to permanent residency (as little as 21 months for German speakers, 33 months otherwise). Germany actively wants skilled graduates to stay.
Tuition ranges from €13,500 (Study College/PSP) to €28,070 (some Bachelor programmes), payable over the duration of study in instalments. Add approximately €700–1,000/month for living costs. Working 20 hours/week can cover most or all of your living expenses. Compare this to the UK (£20,000+/yr tuition, £1,500+/month living) and Germany is significantly more affordable for the same quality of European degree.
From submitting your application to receiving an offer letter typically takes 5–10 business days. Our admissions counsellors review every application personally and contact you within 24 hours of submission. Once documents are verified and the offer issued, the visa process begins — total time from application to arriving in Germany is typically 3–4 months.
